Coal gas, or a suitable mixture of H2, CH4, and CO, is passed at 400º-600º and 400 atm. over magnetic Fe oxide, and the gaseous products, after condensation of alcohols, are converted onto oily hydrocarbons, b. <100º, by passage over active C at 100º-400º.
