      403.            COMPAGNIE DE BÉTHUNE  [Ammonia and Methanol.]  French Patent 670,878.  June 27, 1928. Chem. Zentralb., 1930, I. p. 1348; Chem. Abs., vol. 24, 1930, p. 1942.

Residual gases from the manufacture of H2 from coke-oven gases are partly burnt by passing them with insufficient air through a gas producer filled with refractory material at a high temperature.  The mixture obtained is purified to remove traces of saturated hydrocarbons by catalytic destruction in the presence of Fe, Ni, or Cr and CO2 by washing with NH3.  The purified gases are used to produce MeOH and NH2.
