      401.     ------.  [COMMERCIAL SOLVENTS CORP.]  [Production of Oxygenated Organic Compounds.]  French Patent 774,157, Dec. 3, 1934; appl. filed June 5, 1934.  Chem. Zentralb., 1935, II. P. 593.

Higher alcohols are obtained from C oxides and H2 in presence of hydrogenating catalysts such as metal oxides of groups 2 and 6 activated by means of the alkali salt of an organic acid.  The reduction of CO takes place under the following conditions: Temperature 250º-650º, pressure>140 atm., gas flow 10,000-70,000 cc. Per cc. Catalyst per hr.  The higher temperatures give increased yields of higher alcohols.
