      361.     ------.  [CHEMISCHE WERKE ESSENER STEINKOHLE A. G.]  [Process for Producing Higher Hydrocarbons by the Catalytic Hydrogenation of the Oxides of Carbon.]  German Patent Appl. C 57,060, filed Jan. 26, 1942 (Cl. IV d-12 6).  TOM Reel 177, frames 1,653-1.654: Meyer Transl. PC-S-II.  Fischer Tropsch. Vol. 1. chap. 42, 1948, p. 103.

Method described in German Patent Appl. C 56,917 (abs. 362), in which the hydrogenation is accomplished in several steps in such a manner that the fresh synthesis gas is contained in the 1st step with the least active catalyst, the activity of which increases progressively from the 1st to the last step and is improved by diluting the synthesis gas added in the last step with end gas.  In such a manner overheating of the catalyst and a possible run-away reaction is avoided, prolonging the useful life of the catalyst and increasing the yield of desired products.
