      298.          CALDWELL, M. L.  Gaseous Reduction of Iron Oxide in Suspension.  United States Patent 2,399,984, May 7, 1946.  Chem. Abs., vol. 40, 1946, p. 4340.

Finely divided Fe2O3 or Fe2O4 is brought into contact with vertically moving H2, Co, hydrocarbon gas, or natural gas at 1,300º-1,700º F. in vertical tubes to provide more intimate contact between oxide and gas than is possible in horizontal equipment.  Magnetic separation removes Fe from oxide.
