Total reaction products obtained in the hydrogenation of C oxides is scrubbed in the vapor state and without prior condensation with an alkali carbonate at a temperature within the range 300º-700º F.  An extract comprising salts if fatty acids and an acid-free gas comprising the remainder of the reaction product are formed and the components separated.
