      274.            BÜCHER, K.  (Ruhrchemie A. G.)  [Reclaiming Thorium From Spent Hydrogenation Catalysts.]  German Patent 729,059.  Nov. 12, 1942: appl. R 102,874, R 392, filed July 2, 1938 (Cl. 12 m-9).  TOM Reel 37, bag 3,451, item 35, 3 pp.: Meyer Transl. PC-S-II, Fischer-Tropsch, vol. 4, chap. 132, 1949, p. 17; Chem. Abs., vol. 38, 1944, p. 462.

The Fe-Th mixture is dissolved in H2SO4.  K2SO4, is added to this solution to precipitate K2Th(SO4)3.  The precipitate is filtered, washed, and then boiled with a concentrated solution of Na2CO3; this converts Th to Th bicarbonate.  The trace of K remaining in the catalyst is said to have a beneficial influence.
