Regeneration of Catalyst Such as Zinc and Chromium Oxides Used for Methanol Synthesis. United States Patent 2,276,921, Mar. 17, 1942; appl. filed Sept. 26, 1939, Serial No. 206,625 (Cl. 260-449). Process is employed for the catalysts of a gas to promote a chemical reaction therein by direct contact with a catalyst substantially free from metals of the Fe group and compounds of such metals, which are reducible by CO under the conditions of the catalysis of the gas, wherein contamination of the catalyst with material from the group consisting of the metals of the Fe group and compounds thereof reducible by CO and resulting loss of activity of the catalyst occurs during passage of the catalysis gas in contact with the catalyst thus contaminated by heating the contaminated catalyst at 100º-300º and flowing in direct contact with the thus heated catalyst a gas containing CO in which the CO partial pressure is at least 50 atm. and which contains an amount of carbonyl of a metal of the Fe Group< the equilibrium concentration of the metal carbonyl in said gas containing CO at the temperature at which the gas is flowed in contact with the contaminated catalyst, thereby removing from the catalyst the metal of the Fe group contaminating the catalyst. |
