Formic acid is obtained by interaction of H2 and CO2 at high pressures in the presence of catalytic agents and solvents.  Metals of the Pt group, such as Pd black, are suitable catalysts and H2O ether, alcohol, esters, ketones, paraffin, or liquid acids are suitable solvents.
