         232.        ------.  [BRAUNKOHLE-BENZIN, A. G.]  [Synthesis of Antiknock Motor Fuel.]  German Patent Appl. B 195,169, filed Aug. 2, 1941; PA 551,590 (Cl. IV d-23 b).  FIAT Reel B 196, frames 258-262; PB 83,253.

In the synthesis of antiknock motor fuel from CO and H2 over Fe catalysts at high temperature and pressure, as soon as formed, the products are passed directly through a H3PO4 catalyst arranged in the same converter as the Fe catalyst preferably in alternate layers having between then inert substances, such as kieselguhr, or isomerizing catalysts, such as bleaching earth.  The Fe catalyst is present in the larger amount.  In an example, the operation was carried out at 240º and 7.5 atm. with synthesis gas consisting of 55% CO, 34% H2, 11% inerts.  At an 80% CO conversion 120-130 gm. Of liquid hydrocarbons and gasol per N m.3 of synthesis gas were obtained.  A larger % of antiknock gasoline and a lower % of gasol were obtained than with an Fe catalyst alone.
