      148.            BARBRICK, P. L.  (E. I. duPont de Nemours & Co.).  Olefin Reactions.  United States Patent 2,542,747, Feb. 20, 1951.  Chem. Abs., vol. 45, 1951. p. 7584.

O-containing and N-containing saturated organic compounds are prepared by heating a mixture of an olefinic hydrocarbon.  Co(CO)4(I), and H2 or NH3 at 25°-250° under superatmopheric pressure in the absence of CO.  Thus, iso-AmOH is prepared in a Aglined, high pressure reaction vessel from (I) 28, Me2CH : CH2 (II) 56, and cyclohexane (III) 70 parts as solvent, at 285 atm. H2 pressure: iso=AmNH2 11+5(iso-Am)2NH are prepared from CO 15, (III) 70, and (II) 56 parts at 950 atm. CO pressure at 135°- for 15 hr., then, after bleeding off the CO, NH3 38 and H2 240 atm. are charged into the reactor and heated to 185°: following this same procedure but omitting the H2 and heating at 225° gives isovaleramide: EtCHO is prepared from (I) 42. (III) 70 parts. C2H4202, and H 40 atm.
