135. -----. (Standard Oil Development Co.) Hydrocarbon Synthesis. United States Patent 2,475,214, July 5, 1949: appl. filed Oct. 12, 1944, Serial No. 558,338; 1 Claim (Cl. 260-449.6). Chem. Abs., vol 43, 1949. p. 8120.

After formation by the usual methods, synthesis gas is cooled at 400º -600º F., the temperature of the synthesis reaction.  The hot synthesis gas may be cooled by direct introduction of an H2O Spray, forming steam.  The H2O may be injected into the transfer line connecting the synthesis gas generator with the synthesis reactor.  The total concentration of steam finally present in the gaseous mixture is 25%-100% by volume by volume of the amount of CO plus H2 present in the mixture.  The gases are fed to a reactor containing powdered CO catalyst (200- to400-mesh).  The space velocity is 1.5--3 ft. per second, and a dense turbulent suspension of catalyst, having a density of 10-30 lb.  per cu. ft., is maintained.  Normally liquid hydrocarbons are formed.  1 foreign and 7 United States patents cited.
