      112.     ------.  [BADISCHE ANILIN- UND SODA-FABRIK]  Production of Fuel Gas in Particular Synthesis Gas in Gas Producers.  British Patent 661,148, Nov. 14, 1951.  Chem. Abs., vol. 46, 1952, p. 4203.

Powdered or granular coal or coke is gasified in a gasification chamber (which may be of the centrifugal type) with O2 and steam, the amount of O2 being limited so that CO is formed to a greater extent than CO2.  The hot gases from this step are then passed through a gas producer containing lump coke, so that CO2 and H2O vapor react to form additional gas.  No additional air or O2 is added before this step.  In an example, 7.5 metric ton per hr. of dry brown-coal dust is gasified with 33,850 m.3 per hr. of bituminous coal coke.  There are formed 20,000 m.3 per hr. of synthesis gas having the following composition:  CO2 5.7; CO, 54.5; H2, 38.4; and N2, 1.4%  The CO2 may be washed from this gas in the usual manner.  Passage through the coke-gas producer removes tar and dust, making the gas especially suitable for synthesis purposes.
