Apparatus for synthetic products of MeOH from CO and H2 is made of or coated with a metal or alloy that does not form carbonyl compounds and is resistant to the temperature used, such as Cu, Ag, Al, and their alloys, special steels containing substantial proportions of Cr, Mn, W, Mo, or V, such as “steel V2A” or the metals Cr, Mn, W, Mo, or V, themselves but Fe, Co, and Ni are excluded.  To protect the reaction tube against the action of hot H2, it may be formed with a steel mantle with an inner wall of Cu or other suitable metal.
