      49.    ------.  [ATWELL, H. V.]  (The Texas Co.).  Catalytic Synthesis of Hydrocarbons.  United States Patent 2,583,134, Jan. 22, 1972: appl. Filed June 22, 1948.  Serial No. 34,533, 12 claims (Cl. 260-449.6)

Described process relates specifically to the conversion of hydrocarbon raw materials into desired liquid products by converting the raw material into synthesis gas by contact with reducible metal oxide, followed by subsequent catalytic conversion of the synthesis gas into the predetermined product hydrocarbons.  Example:  Finely divided MoO2 is suspended in a stream of CH4 at 1,500° F> and 200 p. s. i. g.  After substantial time of contact the mixture is cooled to 650° F. and comprise essentially Mo in a lessor state of reduction suspended in a stream comprised essentially of H2 and CO.  The suspension is passed through a dense fluid phase of Fe synthesis catalyst of 100-mesh particle size at a velocity of about 1 ft. per sec. For 20 sec. At 650° F. and 250 p. s. i.  The effluent gaseous products containing suspended particles of O2 carrier are withdrawn from the upper surface of the dense fluid phase and the entrained solid particles separated and recycled into admixture with more feed gases.  The product gas stream from the synthesis reaction zone under condensation yield a product oil layer boiling in the gasoline range and corresponding to about 70% if the CH4 feed consumed on a weight basis.
