      26.       ------.  [ANGLO-IRANIAN OIL CO., LTD.]  Improvements Relating to the Preparation of Catalysts.  British Patent 640,965.  Aug. 2, 1950.  Chem. Abs., vol. 45, 1951. p. 288.

Describes preparation of catalysts for use in hydrogenation of catalysts of the Co molybdate type.  A Co molybdate catalyst is prepared by mixing an aqueous solution of a Co salt with an aqueous solution of a salt of molybdic acid in the presence of NH3, thereby precipitating Co molybdate and adding more NH3 to redissolve the precipitate.  The resulting solution is mixed with a support-selected from the class consisting of anhydrous porous Al2O3 and mixtures of boehmite, so that the solution is absorbed wholly or in part by the porous Al2O3, evaporating to dryness, and heating the impregnated support above 1,000° F. to convert the complex into the desired catalytic form.  The invention attempts to create a catalyst of high activity without using specially prepared Al2O3, so that any commercially available porous Al2O3 may be used in the preparation of the catalyst.
