The synthesis is preformed in presence of a Co catalyst at 100°-150° and at least 50 atm. pressure.  Suitable Olefins are ethylene, propylene, and butylenes or mixtures of these.  Aldehydes are first formed by the conversion and are then reduced to alcohols.
