Mixtures of gaseous hydrocarbon compounds or CO with an excess of H₂ are passed consecutively through a series of electric arcs. There are formed CH₄, C2H₄, C₂H₆, C₄H₂. If a mixture of benzol, CO, and H₂ are used, homologous aromatic hydrocarbons are formed. See also French Patent 574,173 (abs. 24).
