Mixtures of gaseous hydrocarbon compounds or CO with an excess of H2 are passed consecutively through a series of electric arcs.  There are formed CH4, C2H4, C2H6, C4H2.  If a mixture of benzol, CO, and H2 are used, homologous aromatic hydrocarbons are formed.  See also French Patent 574,173 (abs. 24).
