3767.     ZIMMERSCHIED, W. J., DINERSTEIN, R. A., WEITKAMP, A. W., AND MARSCHNER, R. F.  Complexes of Urea With Linear Aliphatic Compounds.  Jour. Am. Chem. Soc., vol. 71, 1949, p. 2947; Chem. Abs., vol. 44, 1950, p. 1033.

Work confirms the observation of Bengen (German Patent Application O. Z. 12,438, Mar. 18, 1940) that C16H34 (0.1 mol.) in 9 vol. mixed decahydronaphthalenes, treated with 1.5 mol. CO(NH2)2 and 0.15 mol. MeOH and stirred 45 min. at 25°, gives a complex containing 11 mol. CO(NH2)2; the formation is accompanied by the evolution of 23 kcal. per mol. C16H34.  Decomposition of the complex in 300 ml. H2O gives 0.097 mol. C16H34.  Halogen, S, and various O derivatives form entirely similar complexes if the linearity of the C skeleton is preserved.  Compounds with a single Me branch form complexes when the linear chain approaches 20, the exact number depending upon the nature of the substituent and the position of the Me group.
