Mixture of ZnO with excess of Mo oxide exhibits van der Waals’ adsorption in a low-temperature range and activated adsorption in a high-temperature range with both H2 and CO.  The decreased extent of activation adsorption and the increased activation energy when Mo oxide is mixed with he ZnO explains why the Mo oxide reduces the catalytic action of ZnO in the MeOH synthesis.
