2945.     ---------------.  [RUHRCHEMIE, A.-G.]  [Manufacture of a Catalyst With High Cobalt Content and High Activity.]  FIAT Reel K-20, 1939, frames 40-43; PB 70,211; TOM Reel 299.

Following has been found to be the most favorable method for precipitating the catalyst consisting of 100 part Co, 15 ThO2, and 12.5 purified kieselguhr.  The boiling solution of 1 kg. Co and 150 gm. ThO2, dissolved as nitrates in 20 l. of H2O, is poured into the stirred boiling solution of 2.6 kg. soda in 40 l. H2O.  After addition of 125 gm. previously purified kieselguhr, the mixture is stirred for another 30-40 sec.  The precipitate then is transferred to a suction filter, and the mother liquor is removed, after which the precipitate is covered 2 times with distilled H2O and washed until less than 0.01 gm. soda per l. can be detected in the wash H2O.  After extensive dry suction the cake is placed in the drier and dried at 100° for 8 hr.
