Possibility of obtaining town’s gas of specified properties, for example, calorific value of 4,200-4,600 kcal. m.3, d. 0.4-0.5, and Ott number 60-100, by mixing residual gas from the Fischer-Tropsch hydrocarbon synthesis process with water gas in suitable proportions, converting CO into H2 and CO2, and removing CO2, is discussed theoretically.  The effects on the composition of the town gas obtained of changing the CO:H2 ratio of the synthesis gas, the type of synthesis catalyst employed, and the presence of CO2, N2, and CH4 in the synthesis gas are illustrated by examples.
