        As far as light motor fuel is concerned, the progress made, although falling short of earlier predictions, is estimated to be rapid enough to ensure virtual independence of imports within the next year or two.  As regards, heavier oils, which represent over ½ of the total requirements, there appears to be no prospect of self-sufficiency being attained in the near future.
