2634.     ---------------.  [PETROLEUM ENGINEER.]  New Sulfur-Recovery Process.  Vol. 23, No. 2, 1951, p. C44, C47.

        Girdler S-recovery process from H2S gases is based on a modification of the original Claus process.  Reaction is carried out in 2 stages:

            (1)            H2S+3/2O2→SO2+H2O;

            (2)            2H2S+SO2→3S+2H2O.

The process is described by aid of a flow diagram.  Up to 95% of the S in H2S-carrying gas may be recovered.  If used in combination with a Girbotol gas purification plant, the utility requirements of the S-recovery plant are minor.
