Equivalent mixture of CH4 and CO2 under atmospheric pressure was passed through a layer of catalyst at 700°-800° to obtain CO and H2.  Catalysts composed of Ni and various oxides and carriers in different ratio were used, and, among those tried, 1 containing Ni, MgO, and kieselguhr in the ratio 1:1:4 gave the best yield of CO+H2 at 700° with the least formation of C on the catalyst.
