Adsorption of CO was measured at 0°-250°.  In all cases, adsorption accompanied by decomposition of CO and formation of metallic carbide took place above 110° and ordinary activated adsorption took place below 110°.  The addition of kieselguhr and ThO2 greatly increased the number of centers of activity and promoted the formation of carbide.
