Dimensionless expression is derived for the maximum safe mass velocity of the gas, G which will not cause motion of the adsorbent bed, with attendant reduction in size owing to abrasion.  The equation given is G2=0.0167 Dgdgda, where D is diameter of average particle, g is acceleration of gravity, dg is density of the gas, and da is apparent density of the adsorbent bed.  The constant, 0.0167, was determined from industrial experience.
