Incorporation of Cr2O3 and Ce2O3 with a Co-Cu-ThO2-kieselguhr catalyst, which has been claimed to have good activity, improves its quality in various respects.  The catalyst, besides being reducible at lower temperature (237°-240°), functions steadily and yields, with cheap water gas at a pressure of 5 atm. and 205°, 160 gm. of hydrocarbons per m.3 of normal water gas.  The space velocity is 570-600 cc. per hr. per cc. of catalyst in a 1-stage operation.  Therefore, the synthesis of hydrocarbons by the Fischer-Tropsch process may be economically improved by the use of this catalyst.
