Special steel bomb is used in which the contact metals serve as electric resistors.  Metals used were:  Fe, Ni, W, Mo, and also C, named in order of their catalytic activity.  Various mixtures of CO and CO2 with H2 were used.  C was produced and also CH4 with traces of higher homologs in some cases.  Traces of HCHO were formed but no CH3OH.  Temperatures of 550°-800° were used.
