Results of this work show that the products of interaction of CO with H2 under atmospheric pressure in the presence of a Ni-Co-Al catalyst at 180°-190° contain not only hydrocarbons and small amounts of acids but also aliphatic alcohols and aldehydes soluble in H2O.  From the reaction water 0.15-0.37%, neutral oxygenated compounds have been isolated, for the most part alcohols.  Methyl, ethyl, n-propyl, and n-butyl alcohols were isolated and identified; amyl alcohol also is present apparently.  In addition to alcohols, an aldehyde was isolated but could not be identified.  In contrast to literature data, only a small amount of acetone was found among the oxygenated compounds, about 2%.  The acids isolated from the water and identified comprise acetic, propionic, and butyric.  The presence of formic acid was shown by only a qualitative test.
