A phenomenon peculiar to this process and not previously described is the formation of MeOH during the conversion of CO (present as an impurity in the H2) to CH4 thus:  CO+6H2→CH4+H2O.  Up to 25% was found in the H2O of the reaction, having been  formed by the reaction:  CO+4H→C3OH.
