To supply the toluene requirements of Great Britain during the war, 5 sources of processes were investigated on a laboratory scale.  One process was the cyclization of n‑heptane obtained from Fischer-Tropsch oil.  With the aid of CrO3 catalyst supported on active Al2O3, about 57% of toluene was obtained at first, later diminishing to 51%.
