Review of various processes for the conversion of CH4 into H2 and C, CO, or CO2 with special emphasis on a process involving the reaction of CH4 with a mixture of O2 and steam in the presence of active Ni, whereby CO (with some CO2) and H2 are formed.  In this latter process the CH4 reacts mainly with the O2.
