The action of Ni-Al2O3 catalysts on aliphatic and hydroaromatic compounds in presence of H2 depends on the composition of the catalyst.  One containing 75% Ni was found to be without action on n-hexane, but decomposed the corresponding cyclo compound, thus providing a means for separating the 2.  The treatment of synthetic benzine with such a catalyst gave a small condensate of a characteristic aromatic odor, indicative of the presence of cycloaromatic compounds.
